In a recording studio actor Denis Lavant sits down in front of a desk, facing the microphone. In his enveloping voice, he begins to read a text by Henry David Thoreau, the 19th-century American philosopher and poet who originated the principle of “civil disobedience” and is now considered a precursor of the ecological movement. As the actor, a perfectionist, rehearses his text over and over again, the words begin to resonate, both literally and figuratively, and seem to go their own way, in complete freedom, as if to contaminate the world.
