The Radical Women exhibition presented in Los Angeles in 2018 filled a gap in art history by finally giving space to the extraordinary work produced by 120 Latin American women between 1960 and 1985.
These powerful artists from Argentina, Mexico, Colombia and Brazil all lived through a period marked by both repression and liberation. They were radical in their approach to feminist issues and took part in movements supporting civil rights of minorities. It was often with their bodies as political weapons that they expressed their rejection of an annihilating society.
The film, directed by Isabel De Luca and Isabel Nascimento Silva, is a treasure trove of previously unseen archive footage of daring performances and works. It gives the floor to 11 of the women, it’s high time to mention their names: Anna Bella Geiger, Leonora De Barros, Teresinha Soares, Silvia Palacios Whitman, Graciela Carnevale Marcos, Cecilia Vicuna, Liliana Porter, Isabel Castro, Claudia Andujar, Victoria Cabezas, Maria Evelia Marmolejo.
