Back in the 1970s, ISELP (Institut Supérieur pour l'Etude du Langage Plastique) began offering Brussels audiences outdoor screenings of films on art in the Egmont Park.

In 2011, this event, known as the Festival du Film sur l'Art, moved to the Institute's premises and became competitive.

In 2012, a Brussels-based association specialising in documentaries on artistic creation - the Centre du Film sur l'Art - joined the organisation of this event. Thanks to this association, the festival is growing, moving, exporting and finding prestigious partners such as BOZAR and CINEMATEK: in 2015, it became the BAFF- Brussels Art Film Festival.

BAFF now offers a national competition of documentaries on art with a link to Belgium, international films out of competition, screenings for young audiences, meetings and screenings in Flanders and Wallonia.

It offers Belgian filmmakers the chance to win four prizes awarded by an international jury made up of well-known figures from the world of art and cinema.

Since 2022, BAFF has been part of a new international network, the Films on Art Network, which allows Belgian films to be screened internationally and gives visibility to this particularly lively and productive artistic scene.
