BROKEN VIEW

The magic lantern, the forerunner of cinema and a fabulous instrument of knowledge, rightly exerted a real fascination. Yet these images on glass plates were also very effective in serving the colonial discourse and convincing the population of the validity of this disastrous enterprise. By using a first-person narrative, the filmmaker confronts us with our responsibilities and shows us the extent to which these terrible images have shaped our minds and still colonise our imaginations today.
