SPEECH FOR A MELTING STATUE

COLLECTIF FAIRE-PART

Poet Marie Paule Mugeni prepares her speech for the eventual removal of the statue of the colonial king Leopold II in Brussels. Archival images of colonial statues torn from their pedestals accompany her words. An interplay is established between the Matongé district in both Brussels and Kinshasa (both neighbourhoods carry the same name). For the moment, the statue is still standing, but the poet Marie Paule Mugeni is ready... and she’s not the only one.
