In Russia, 21-year-old queer artist Gena Marvin stages performances that seem to come straight from another planet, upsetting the anti-LGBTQIA+ crusade that Vladimir Putin has been waging for years. Faced with an increasingly repressive and sinister daily life, their radical aesthetic becomes political, blurring the boundaries between identity, art and activism. Thanks to the magnificent cinematography of director Agniia Galdanova, Gena’s dark and strange world unfolds to reveal all the evocative power of art as a struggle to assert oneself at the risk of one’s life.
